Surrendering Your Bird
Sometimes a situation arises that makes finding another home for your bird the most humane choice. Birds require a lot of time, patience, and understanding. Maybe your living situation or financial position has changed, or perhaps you were left with an elderly or deceased parent's bird. You want to do right by your bird, and if that means surrendering him or her to another home, we can help.
We often have a waiting list of birds to be surrendered. Good foster homes can be difficult to find, and we do not rush when reviewing adoption applications. If there is a waiting list at the time you wish to surrender, we will give special allowances to birds who are up-to-date (within six months) on their avian exam. If a PBFD and Psitticosis test is included in the exam, it would be especially appreciated. Every bird who comes into our program must undergo an avian exam prior to consideration for adoption, but if this exam has already been performed, it saves us both time and money.
Please fill out the Bird Surrender Form as completely as you possibly can. You can then mail it to us at the address below, or send it by e-mail. We also request that you make a small donation when surrendering a bird. The rehoming process can take time, because we want to make sure just the right person is selected as your bird's new guardian. A suggested donation is $25.
Because not all computers will open all types of programs, we have the form in three different formats: Microsoft Word You should be able to open it in any Word version and fill it out on your computer.
